Who we are

The Energy Institute (“the EI”) is a chartered professional membership body for the energy industry, developing and sharing knowledge, skills and good practice towards a safe, secure and sustainable energy system. We are a registered charity, incorporated by Royal Charter in 2003 following the merger between the Institute of Petroleum and the Institute of Energy. The EI’s Royal Charter sets out the full objectives of the institute.

The EI is registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, under Charity No. 1097899 and group VAT registered with EI Services Limited by HM Revenue and Customs, under VAT No. 274 0453 13 at 61 New Cavendish Street, London W1G 7AR, UK. EI Services Limited is a trading subsidiary of the Energy Institute. EI Services Limited was incorporated under the Companies Act 2006 as a private company, limited by shares, on 18 May 2017 at 61 New Cavendish Street London W1G 7AR. Company No. 10777524 and group VAT registered with the EI under the VAT number above.

These Terms and Conditions apply to the EI as a registered charity and to EI Services Limited. They should be read in conjunction with the EI’s Privacy Policy which explains how we process personal data in accordance with data protection law.

Using our websites

The EI’s websites are hosted by Squiz Ltd and are collectively referred to as “the Sites”. Use of the Sites signifies your agreement to these Terms and Conditions and the Privacy Policy.

Changes to these terms

We may amend these terms from time to time. You should review them regularly.

Availability of the Sites

The Sites are provided free of charge unless stated otherwise. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability and may suspend or withdraw access for operational reasons.

Information on the Sites

Information on the Sites is provided for general information only. The EI accepts no liability for reliance placed on this information.

Account security

You must keep your login details confidential. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact comms@energyinst.org.

Ownership of content

Content ownership is attributed where applicable. External links are provided for convenience and are not endorsed by the EI.

User-generated content

User content does not reflect the views of the EI and is not verified by us.

Uploading content

Contributions must comply with content standards including legality, accuracy, and non-infringement of rights. Content must not be offensive, defamatory, discriminatory, misleading, unlawful or harmful.

Rights you grant us

You grant the EI a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use content you upload.

Viruses and misuse

You must not introduce malware or attempt unauthorised access. Breaches may be reported to law enforcement.

Copyright

All content on the Sites is protected by copyright. No reproduction is permitted without written permission.


EI conferences, events and training courses

Booking, cancellation, refunds, transfers, filming/photography, sponsorship and visa request terms apply as published by the EI. Fees, VAT rules, and cancellation charges vary by event type and timing.


Purchasing EI publications

Purchases and subscriptions grant limited licences for personal use only. Content may not be redistributed. Records are processed in line with the Privacy Policy.


Becoming a member of the EI

Membership is subject to application, payment of fees, adherence to the Code of Professional Conduct and annual renewal terms. The EI reserves the right to vary benefits and fees.


Joining the Energy Efficiency Experts register

Registration is subject to professional eligibility, annual fees, CPD requirements and adherence to the Code of Conduct.


Accreditation and approval

Accreditation and approval of programmes are subject to EI criteria, review processes, fees and compliance with standards.


Company membership

Company Membership is subject to application approval, annual renewal, and adherence to branding and conduct rules.


Donation refund policy

Donations may be refunded within 14 days if requested. Contact accounts@energyinst.org.


Facilities and room hire

Room hire bookings require advance payment. Cancellation terms apply. Access limitations and VAT apply.


Further information

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The English courts have exclusive jurisdiction.
